After a few days of mild sullenness and not-so-mild heartache, my dear husband suggested (via Skype) those magic words: Why don't you take a trip? You deserve it.
For some girls, it's retail therapy. For others, a pint of gelato seems to cure all of life's ills. For me, all it takes is a current passport and an itinerary of exploration to brighten up the most blustery London mood. But since my discontent was primarily due to our temporary marital separation (military-related, for those just joining), I decided to use this trip to "find" my husband. The destinations? Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. The rationale? Brady had served an Latter-day Saint mission there a few years prior to our meeting. I wanted to see if those two years of living abroad had given anything to him, and if those gifts were still lingering for me to see today.
Sigh. Lucerne, Switzerland, what a beautiful jewel tucked away in the Swiss Alps! It's reserved citizens, inspiring military history, and butter and meat-laden meals all hinted of my husband's Brady-ness (especially the lattermost detail). But Brady only spent a short amount of time serving in Switzerland, and likewise not a huge part of his personality mirrored the Swiss. After a brief overnight stay in Lucerne I shouldered by rucksack and boarded the night train to Salzberg.
